raunch doesn't sell
2008 was the year that obscenity, sex and nudity didn't sell in Hollywood. Movies with strong moral values and inspiring stories full of positive faith outperformed, by 2 to 1 or more, films with foul language, explicit sex and nudity.
read Washington Post article here
Now, there are always exceptions to the rule. A good example would be the box office hit, "Parenthood". The film contained some foul language, but was nominated for 2 Oscars, and another 4 wins and 7 nominations...very successful. Let's take a look at a clip...

j mac the hero
Here's a blast from the past, but what a great story...
We tend to expect little from children we've passed off as different or less than capable, but America is truly a kaleidoscope of young people who can offer their own brand of "good" to our everyday lives, if we simply give them a chance.
A faithful, high school basketball, team manager, got his chance and what an impact he's made with it. Here's to J Mac, and here's to his coach, who simply gave him a chance...

a person is a person, no matter how small - dr. seuss
A friend of mine shot this to me on Facebook. I hesitated to post it on our blog, because I don't like to get too political. But, hey, this isn't a political issue...it's a life issue.

soul is good
Want to know what "good" is? It's the wife of your youth, baking in the kitchen and dancing to Wilson Pickett. Mmmmphhh!

doing good is good money
Ever hear of the LifeStraw? PermaNet? ZeroFly? These are products developed to help the less fortunate, those areas of the world where clean water is almost non existent and insects wreak havoc on human health.
The company, Vestergaard-Frandsen, led by CEO, Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, is focused on making the world a better place, addressing tough, tough problems facing much of the world's population.
I read that Mikkel's company spent $3,000,000 in an attempt to screen as many Africans as they could for AIDS. This was a challenge, because in their culture there's a stigma associated with even asking someone to test. But, they were able to screen 50,000!

showing gratitude through music
Here's a great story about a classically trained violinist, Ken Wollberg, who, in order to make ends meet, began trucking, only to have a horrible accident, damaging his elbow. The doctors were amazed at his recovery and Ken showed his thankfulness with a little performance...
